VLC Forum 2023: Revision* – E-Flux Education

The New School offers a Vera List Center for Arts and Politics VLC Forum 2023: Edit*, presented October 12–14, 2023 in New York City and online. An international, annual conference on art and politics, this year’s forum is organized within the framework of the Center’s biennial inquiry. edit*Exploring the possibilities of „correcting”, revising or transcending histories of injustice, destruction and degradation.

VLC Forum 2023 celebrates a gathering of tribal urban artists proppaNOWRecipient of the 2022–24 Jane Lombard Prize of the Center for Arts and Social Justice, as well as Jane Lombard Fellows, Prize Finalists: Pan-African Another roadmap is the Africa cluster, Colectivo Sereny from Mexico, Kunci Study Forum & Co from Indonesia, and from Palestine Khalil Rabah. Over three days, the exhibition, workshops, conversations, keynote lectures and a social dinner and karaoke party with a DJ set by an ARAC member Christian Nyambeta, The Forum brings together community-based artists and collectives to advance social justice around the world through collective and collaborative practices.

proppaNOW: There Goes the Neighborhood!Exhibition and screening program featuring members Tony Albert, Vernon Ah Gee, Richard Bell, Megan Cobb, Jennifer HurtLate Larry NielsenAnd Weather aside, hosts the forum. Presented 20 years after its founding in Brisbane, Australia, the exhibition highlights their unwavering commitment to pushing for greater visibility of Aboriginal struggles and rights. The screening program consists of videos selected by proppaNOW members. Screenings: October 13 at 4:30 & 5:30pm EDT, October 19 at 6:30pm EDT, October 26 at 6:30pm EDT.

Day One: Thursday, October 12

Awards ceremony and conversation with proppaNOW and Wanda Nanibush: 6:30-8 p.m. EDT
Auditorium, The New School, 66 W 12th Street, New York. Join us in honoring proppaNOW at the Jane Lombard Prize Gala, followed by a conversation among proppaNOW members. Social feast and banquet: 8-10pm EDT

Igniting Resistance: A Conversation with the Colectivo Serrani: 11 am–12 pm EDT
Wollman Hall, The New School. Colectivo Sereny P’urhepecha discusses resistance movements and attempts at autonomy in Mexico with the curator Pablo Jose Ramirez.

Learning together: 12:30-2 pm EDT

Farid Raghun: In space, or space, placing inruangrupa: 2:30-4 p.m. EDT
Wollman Hall, The New School. Jakarta-based conglomerate Ruangrupa Considers space as their primary object—members Farid the raccoon Reflects the use of space as a guiding tool in collaborative development. The keynote address is followed by a refreshments and closing reception.
