Cameron put his stamp on Nori Novak Djokovic but saw his Italian Open run end in the fourth round. A 6-3 6-4 win was very convincing for the world number one Nori, who maintained his unbeaten record before the quarter-finals in Rome.
The key talking point came in the fourth game of the second set when Norrie tried to recover an early break. Djokovic brought his opponent back into the game with an easy smash, only for Nori to, by accident, drill the ball through the Serbian’s legs.
Djokovic gave the British number one a very frosty look and the match had an edge after that, but Norrie never really threatened to land more than a glancing blow.
The 27-year-old, who had lost both previous meetings with Djokovic, dropped serve early in the match and was kept at arm’s length for the remainder of the opening set by a tactical masterclass from the six-time champion. .
