Jokowi announced the partnership plans at the ASEAN-Japan Summit

JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that ASEAN and Japan have agreed on a shared vision and partnership plans during the 50th Anniversary Summit of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation held in Tokyo on Sunday.

In a joint press release with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Jokowi said that as partners in peace and stability, ASEAN and Japan remain committed to maintaining peace through inclusive cooperation, respect for international law, and strengthening the ASEAN core.

„ASEAN leaders expressed their appreciation for Japan’s full support in implementing and prioritizing the ASEAN perspective on the Indo-Pacific and welcomed the upcoming trilateral mechanism summit between Japan, China and South Korea as a form of dialogue,” Jokowi said. .

He added that 50 years of ASEAN-Japan partnership has deepened mutual trust in their relationship.

Jokowi expressed his hope that the partnership will continue to contribute to maintaining regional stability and peace.

„In the spirit of friendship, I believe the ASEAN-Japan partnership can continue to contribute to maintaining stability and peace, bringing people closer, and driving economic growth in the region and the world,” he noted.

Jokowi also said that ASEAN and Japan agreed to increase cooperation in the fields of education, research and development and digital economy.

As partners in the economic and social sectors, ASEAN and Japan will strengthen cooperation in two priority sectors, he added.

In the field of food and energy security, strengthening will be done through cooperation in agricultural technology and promotion of investment and technology transfer.

„Accelerate digital transformation and increase digital connectivity through human resource development and reskilling, especially for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs),” Jokowi said.

He also expressed ASEAN’s hope that Japan will support ASEAN’s digital economy framework and promote the use of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
