West Papua supports infrastructure to develop the economy

Manokwari (ANTARA) – The West Papua Office of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is focusing on building the necessary supporting infrastructure to accelerate the growth of the economy and tourism sectors this year to attract investors and tourists.

The government is keen to build one of its strategic projects to build roads and bridges connecting the Arfak Highlands district to the provincial capital Manokwari, Yohanes Momot, head of the West Papua PUPR office, said in Manokwari on Tuesday.

He emphasized the importance of the project, saying, „The residents of Arfaq Highlands need roads to bring their agricultural produce to Manokwari and sell it.”

Roads and bridges are expected to attract investors to the tourist destination Angi Lake.

He also said that the provincial government is paying serious attention to developing and promoting the tourism destination of Triton Bay in Kaimana District.

According to Momot, critical infrastructure such as roads, electricity, telecommunication networks and accommodation are most important for tourists visiting a tourist destination.

In line with the Governor’s directives, our main focus is to carry out development activities based on the status of the province, Dryden Bay tourist spots, roads extending to Angi Lake in Arfak Highlands district through Minyambov and several roads in Manokwari. Capital,” he added.

He also expressed hope that the community will participate in the efforts by collaborating with the regional government in supporting the strategic construction project that is expected to promote economic development in West Papua as a whole.

„If it can be completed by this year, the residents will immediately feel the benefits in terms of economic and tourism activities in the region,” he said.
