He thanked Brunei for successfully fulfilling its current role as the coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations and confirmed that as the next coordinator, the Vietnamese side is ready to work with New Zealand to strengthen special bilateral relations. 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-New Zealand relations.
At the meeting, ASEAN and New Zealand reaffirmed their commitment to develop their partnership while enhancing ties, including the continued implementation of the ASEAN-New Zealand Action Plan 2021 to 2025.
The Alliance welcomed New Zealand’s support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) and looked forward to concrete actions to seek to enhance practical cooperation in line with the ASEAN-New Zealand Joint Statement on Cooperation on the AOIP adopted in 2023.
Meanwhile, New Zealand is committed to supporting the ASEAN Hub, particularly by participating in ASEAN-led mechanisms and implementing cooperation activities under the four themes of the Peace, Prosperity, People and Planet Agenda 2021 to 2025. .
As 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-New Zealand dialogue relations, a new action plan for 2026 to 2030 will be adopted next year, and both sides agree to explore initiatives and activities to commemorate this milestone. .
New Zealand reiterated its desire to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with ASEAN in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of relations.
