'There's more to come' says Emma Raduganu after her recovery

Emma Raduganu says 'there's more to come' after impressing in Auckland

Emma Raducanu was beaten by Elina Svitolina yesterday, but the 2021 US Open champion is taking positives from her two matches on the WTA Tour.

Radukanu defeated the Ukrainian No.1 7-6(5) 6(3)-7 1-6 in a match that lasted nearly three hours in Auckland.

While admitting he was 'disappointed' at the end of the tournament, Raduganu believes this is just the beginning for him, „It's definitely exciting for me. I've only played two matches and my court time is very limited.

The 21-year-old continued, “I've been training at LTA for the past few months, but I've had some setbacks in my wrists and ankles. So getting back up to speed after a while is a great sign.

„Obviously I'm disappointed today because I was a few points away and a few forehands in the middle, but at least I took them. I think I'd be very upset if I let it go in and hit a winner. I'm looking forward to this season, it's just the beginning. One week – more to come.

Raducanu had beaten world No.134 Elena Gabriela Rouss in the first round, so played a higher-ranked opponent in No.25 Svitolina.

The Briton spoke of how 'honoured' he was after going toe-to-toe with the Wimbledon semi-finalist, saying: „Two sets, two long sets that lasted two hours and I think I can take it that my level was too high for two sets. 15 minutes,

„I'm really proud of how quickly I've been able to raise my level to compete with Elena. But it definitely gives me a lot of confidence and I'm looking forward to more competitions, more training, more fitness sessions, and seeing where I can go from there.

After straight entry to the Australian Open, Raducanu now has a week off the matchcourt before returning to Grand Slam competition for the first time in a year.

Although a second-round loss doesn't always look like much on paper, Emma Raduganu should take a positive look at her week in Auckland. The Brit may have lost to Elina Svitolina, but she played better than in the first round, especially in those first two sets! Radukanu's fans will be hoping for a favorable Australian Open draw that will help him earn more matches and major points and rebuild the rankings.
