JAKARTA (Andara) – Technological leaps may cause disruptions in the country’s cyber security in 2029, National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) Governor Andi Witjajanto has said.
Speaking at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, he highlighted that technological leaps ranging from machine learning, big data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) to quantum computing will significantly change the way data is collected.
„The forms of machine learning and big data analysis are so sharp and fast without limits that everything we’ve built for cybersecurity will be compromised,” he explained.
He warned that the current system of cyber security is no longer relevant because it relies solely on big data.
He said that not only Indonesia but many countries around the world should expect these technological leaps because they could affect domestic politics.
He pointed out that one country that has anticipated this leap, including quantum computing, is Singapore, which has created a digital and intelligence service in its military.
According to him, anyone who masters research and development (R&D) in this technological leap can influence the national elections in 2029.
„That person can be part of the pentahelix actors that produce technological leaps, and they don’t necessarily have to be a state actor. It can be innovators or companies,” he said.
The pentahelix represents the involvement of government, the media, the business world, academia and the public.
Earlier, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) warned that if the country’s digital data is left unsecured, it could lead to a situation where the direction of the 2029 general election will be decided by those who can manipulate technology.
„One of our digital experts said to me: „Sir, we have to be careful, because if we don’t protect our digital data, they will decide (democracy) in 2029.” How dangerous it is, it can check consumer behavior and people’s behavior very precisely,” he said. He said.
