Shogri joined the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting in Rio de Janeiro

Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has left for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting on February 21 and 22.

Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Egypt's participation was at the invitation of the Brazilian president of the group, which invited Egypt to join its meetings this year. This will be Egypt's fourth participation, having been invited as a guest of the group three times in 2016, 2019 and 2023.

Shogri is expected to address the G20's role in addressing international crises and another session on reforming global governance.

He will also hold several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from member states and other countries who have been invited to the meetings.

The G20 foreign ministers' meeting begins in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, the most important meeting hosted by Brazil as the current chair of the group. The meeting will take place ahead of the G20 leaders' summit to be held in Brazil in November.

G20 foreign ministers will discuss topics highlighted by the Brazilian president in the group's agenda for 2024, such as sustainable development, global governance and fighting hunger in developing countries.

They will also discuss other pressing issues facing the world, such as the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and conflicts in other regions, particularly the Gaza crisis.
