„Poor performance” – Manchester City's win over Everton slammed by pundits despite Erling Haaland's brace

Manchester City got the job done against Everton. Pep Guardiola's free-flowing side beat the Merseyside-based club 2-0 thanks to an Erling Holland brace. They even enjoyed 72% of possession. But statistics don't paint the whole picture and pundits have labeled this game as one of Man City's worst this season. A certain statistic does not attract them.

The win leaves Man City second in the Premier League table behind Liverpool. Interestingly, they have a game over their competitors. Guardiola hopes to play spoilsport in Jurgen Klopp's final season with the Reds, with Erling Haaland in sensational form after returning from injury.

Despite the win, Man City's performance was 'not good' for pundits

Frank LeBoeuf doesn't seem to have enjoyed the Sky Blues' display against Everton. He said on ESPN FC, “They (Man City) had to wait 70-seconds to get a goal and a shot on target..” Interestingly, Man City only had 3 shots on target in the entire game! He added,This was probably one of the worst performances I've seen from City this season.” Craig Burley agreed with him, saying it was a job well done, and 3 points but not good enough.

However, experts do agree on one thing. Steve Nicol questioned, “What does it say when your worst performance turns out to be a comfortable win?.” His answer was that it shows how good Man City are as a team. A big reason for that is Erling Holland. The striker can't stop scoring and Steve Nicoll aptly described him as, „Every time the ball comes close you think he is going to score.„

It was the first time the Norwegian striker had scored since his return from injury. The star was recently asked to describe his injury recovery, and he didn't mince his words.

The Premier League's leading goalscorer missed more than a month with a foot injury in December. This left him unable to play in many important matches, leaving the striker frustrated.
