'Novak Djokovic is the best the game has ever seen,’ says ATP’s top star
Janic Sinner says Novak Djokovic is 'the best in sports’ ahead of their ATP Finals clash, but he relishes the battle.
For many, with his incredible poise and clean baseline attack, Sinner is the closest thing tennis has seen to Djokovic in recent years.
There may be some merit to that argument, and Sinner has caused the Serbian problems despite losing all three clashes so far.
Bavi will get another chance when they meet in the round-robin stage of the ATP Finals, and he says he is closer than ever to defeating him.
„You’re going to be in front of someone who’s won three out of four, 24 Slams this year alone,” Sinner said. „In terms of results, he is the best in this game.
“I hope to meet him soon. These are the matches that are important for my development (as a player), whether I win or learn. Djokovic will tell me where I am.
„Even though I lost in three sets in the semifinals at Wimbledon this year, I felt closer in the quarterfinals than last year when I fought to five,” he explained.
“I can’t wait. These are the competitions that I train for every day and that fill me with pressure.
Bavi will be hoping that playing Djokovic in front of his home crowd in Italy, something he has never done before, will help him.
„Playing in Turin is very important for me because I will enjoy it with the home crowd,” he said.
„It’s a new mindset I’m starting to get into. I love it when people come to my group. That’s why I want to play well in the finals,” he said.

Novak Djokovic and Janic Sinner join former winner Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Roon in the Green Group.
It’s certainly not an easy group, but do you expect one in the ATP Finals?
If anything, it will be a bit kinder than the Red group, where debutant Carlos Algaraz will have to deal with two former champions, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev. Andrey Rublev completes the lineup in the red group.
