No. 12 USC men's volleyball falls to No. 8 Ohio State in four

Angels – The 12th-ranked USC men's volleyball team (11-9) fell to eighth-ranked Ohio State (15-4) in the Pac-12 in four sets, 22-25, 25-11, 25-23, 25-20. Big Ten Challenge on Friday, March 8 at Galen Center Pavilion.

  • Redshirt Junior OPP Jack Deuchar She posted 13 kills for her 12th game in double figures.
  • Fr. Organizer Caleb Blanchett Recorded 38 assists to go along with four digs and one service ace.
  • So. oh Dillon Klein Collected 17 kills (7e, 28att) and hit .357 as she recorded double-digit kills for the 35th time in her career. She had five digs, two blocks, two assists and one service ace.
  • Fr. MP Wesley Smith Recorded six kills with two digs and one block.
  • Junior LIB Austin Stewart He had four digs in the first two sets. Redshirt senior OH Jackson Reed Wearing the libero jersey for the third and fourth sets, she recorded six digs for the Trojans.
  • For the Buckeyes, Jacob Pastor led the way by hitting .333 with 15 kills, and had five digs and four blocks (one solo). Shane Wetzel hit .304 with 11 kills and had four blocks. Kyle Tune hit .529 with 11 kills.

That's how it happened

  • The Trojans trailed 28-27, and assists, 44-41. Ohio State had a kill, 48-47, and put up an extra service ace to edge USC, 6-5. The Buckeyes outhit the Trojans, .387 to .223.
  • Klein provided five kills and helped the Trojans hit .269 in a 25-22 first-set victory. The Trojans totaled 13 kills and 10 digs, helping hold the Buckeyes to a .130 percentage with eight kills on 23 swings (5e). Teucher had four of her kills and Smith had three in the opening frame.
  • Ohio State put up 4.5 blocks and held the Trojans to a negative .050 hitting percentage to even the match in set two 25-11. The Trojans had just five kills in the second.
  • After 10 ties and three lead changes, the Buckeyes erased a five-point hole and won 25-23 in the third to take a 2-1 lead. Deuchar had eight kills to lead the Trojan offense, while Klein added five. Reid had four digs, but Ohio State hit .684 on 19 attacks with 13 kills to secure the win.
  • The Buckeyes led in the fourth game, but the Trojans cut the deficit to two points late in the set, 22-20, before Ohio State closed out the contest with a 25-20 victory. Klein added six more kills in four sets, but Pastor had five and helped the Buckeyes hit .308 in the final set.

  • USC resumes MPSF play on Thursday, March 14 when it travels to Malibu to take on 10th-ranked Pepperdine at Firestone Fieldhouse. The Trojans and Waves will meet in the matchup at 6 p.m. PT.
