Anthony made the statement

After confirming his retirement from Manchester United, Anthony has issued his own statement.

His statement read: “While responding to the allegations against me, I have agreed to take some time off with Manchester United.

“This is a mutual decision to avoid distraction for my teammates and unnecessary controversy for the club.

„I would like to reiterate that I am innocent of what I have been accused of and will fully cooperate with the police in their pursuit of the truth. I look forward to playing again as soon as possible.

BREAKING: Man Utd confirm Anthony’s absence

Anthony has been told not to return to Manchester United amid allegations of physical assault.

The United winger was left out of the Brazil squad after his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Gaval made allegations against him, which Anthony has denied.

Cavalin claims she was assaulted by Anthony four times, and Greater Manchester Police and police in Brazil are investigating the allegations against Anthony. Two more women have since come forward claiming they were physically assaulted by Anthony, which the player denies.

Anthony returns to training tomorrow with other United players not on international duty. But after high-level discussions between club officials, boss Eric den Haag, the player and his representatives, it has been decided that he should stay away until further notice.
