Lucas Glover and Rory McIlroy square off in the first round of the BMW Championship — the final event of the FedEx Cup playoffs — on Olympia Fields Country Club’s North Course outside Chicago.
The fight for a spot at East Lake Country Club, site of the PGA Tour Championship, began last week, with Glover finishing 1 shot better than McIlroy to claim victory for the second week in a row.
No. 1 John Rahm and no. 2 Scotty Scheffler at 1:38 pm ET off the tee off Rickie Fowler and a group ahead of Keegan Bradley (1:49 pm ET).
Only the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings are still alive for a tour title.
Glover, 43, was ranked No. 112 in the playoff standings before winning the Wyndham Championship, and the St. Jude Championship vaulted him to No. 4.
Patrick Cantley, eliminated by Glover in Sunday’s playoff at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, with Max Homma — one group ahead of McIlroy and Glover — at 10:54 a.m. ET.
Cantlay is the reigning champion of the BMW Championship and is fifth in the Cup standings; Homam number 6.
The winner of the no-cut event receives $3.6 million of the inflated $20 million purse and 2,000 FedEx Cup points.
The top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings at the end of Sunday’s final round will advance to the Tour Championship.
