Latest Match Report – Afghanistan vs Ireland Only Test 2023/24

Toss Afghanistan Batting selection vs Ireland

Afghanistan have opted to bat in the one-off Test against Ireland at the Tolerance Oval in Abu Dhabi. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi announced that wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz will make his Test debut in this match.

This will be the first international game to be played at the Tolerance Oval, the 122nd venue for Test cricket. The pitch, with its unknown characteristics, is very dry. The outfield was expected to be quick.

This will be the second time that Afghanistan and Ireland have met in a Test match, the first being in Dehradun in 2019.

Afghanistan have played eight Tests and Ireland seven since both teams gained Test status in 2017. Afghanistan have beaten Ireland, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe once each, while Ireland have lost all seven Tests they have played so far.

Afghanistan's last Test came against Sri Lanka earlier this month, while Ireland's last appearance was against England in July 2023.
