Jokowi praised the ASEAN summit for securing US$38 billion in projects

JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) President Akbar Bukhari praised President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for his success in securing commitments for cooperation projects worth US$38 billion at the 43rd ASEAN Summit.

„Mr. Jokowi is working hard this year to lead Indonesia to become the Chairman of ASEAN in 2023. The value of cooperation (projects) is fantastic. I hope that cooperation will be well implemented and benefit the people,” he said in a statement. Received here on Saturday.

As the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, Indonesia has successfully hosted several agendas for the regional forum, including the recent 43rd ASEAN Summit held in Jakarta on September 5-7.

The recent summit featured several side events, including the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF), which resulted in 93 cooperation projects among ASEAN member states and partners, with a total value of Rp580 trillion or US$38.2 billion.

Buchari urged the government to make genuine efforts to ensure that the benefits of the 43rd ASEAN Summit reach the people, especially those running Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the hope of sustaining a positive trend in national economic growth. .

He praised President Jokowi for his determination to voice the interests of not only Indonesia but also other developing countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

He said that cooperation between the public and private sectors involved in AIPF can be demonstrated in various investment projects supporting the development of new and renewable energy, hydrogen, ammonia, battery supply chain, customs and ports.

He also described the President as a leader with the courage to constantly voice the importance of maintaining stability and peace. President Jokowi has earlier affirmed that stability and peace are the keys to prosperity.

The HIPMI president underlined Jokowi’s success in attracting leaders of partner countries such as the US and China to personally attend the 43rd ASEAN Summit and praised Indonesia’s leadership in ASEAN.

„It is noteworthy that US Vice President Kamala Harris and Chinese Premier Li Qiang personally attended (the summit) and praised Jokowi. Also, Japan, Canada and South Korea participated in the summit,” he said. Said.
