Jokowi meets World Bank and IMF leaders ahead of ASEAN summit

Jakarta (Andara) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with World Bank President Ajay Banga and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Jakarta on Monday ahead of the 43rd ASEAN Summit.

Banga Merdeka arrived at the palace at 2:15pm (7:15am GMT) in a formal attire. Half an hour later Georgieva came dressed in a batik dress. Jokowi held separate meetings with the two dignitaries at the palace.

During the meeting with the World Bank President, Jokowi was accompanied by State Secretary Minister Pratigno, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and Deputy Foreign Minister Bahala Mansoori.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Redno Marsudi joined Muliani and Pratigno during the president’s meeting with Georgieva of the International Monetary Fund.

Apart from the meeting with Banga and Georgieva, Jokowi is scheduled to attend a meeting with World Economic Forum (WEF) President Klaus Schwab.

This year the President will hold a series of bilateral meetings with several heads of state before and after the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta on September 5-7 under the chairmanship of Indonesia in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Under its leadership theme of „ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”, Indonesia strives to maintain ASEAN’s relevance on the global stage and ensure that it is capable of meeting the challenges of promoting and preserving regional stability and peace.

Indonesia is committed to leading ASEAN countries to further strengthen and ensure the implementation of concrete cooperation agreements in the hope of making the Southeast Asian region a center of economic, political and socio-cultural development.

The 43rd ASEAN Summit will serve as the second such summit this year, following the 42nd Summit held in May in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, where leaders of the bloc made several announcements.
