India-Maldives-Sri Lanka conduct trilateral exercise 'Doshi' near Male

Male, Feb 23 (PTI) To improve maritime security and interoperability, coast guards from India, Maldives and Sri Lanka have embarked on a four-day trilateral exercise to identify emerging maritime challenges in the Indian Ocean region.

Indian Coast Guard ship Samarth and ICGS Abhinav and Sri Lankan Navy ship Samudura arrived here on Thursday for the 'DOSTI-16' exercise to be held between February 22 and 25. Bangladesh is participating as an observer.

The Coast Guard Helicopter ICGS Tornier is part of Dosti, a trilateral exercise aimed at enhancing cooperation, strengthening friendship, improving mutual operational capability and operational capability among the Coast Guards of India, Maldives and Sri Lanka. .

Additional Director General of Indian Coast Guard ATG S Paramesh was given a warm welcome by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNTF) on Thursday evening.

„On his (Paramesh) arrival at VIA, MNDF Coast Guard Commander Colonel Mohammad Saleem congratulated him,” said a post on MNDF's X.

„The Commanding Officers of the two ICG ships called on the Commandant MNDF CG and discussed mutual avenues of cooperative engagements,” the Indian Coast Guard said in a note on X.

The ICG ships will participate in a series of operations and participate in joint maritime exercises with the Sri Lankan Coast Guard and the Maldives National Defense Force.

The Indian Embassy in Maldives has described the 16th edition of the India-Maldives-Sri Lanka trilateral exercise 'Dosti' as „regional coordination to enhance maritime security and interoperability”.
