Improve efficiency after Eid, Social Affairs Minister tells employees

JAKARTA (Antara) – Social Affairs Minister Tri Rizmaharini asked the ministry staff to continue to improve their work performance after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Eid was a moment of reflection, the minister observed in a written statement received here on Wednesday.

He said that since he was assigned the charge of the Ministry of Social Affairs, he has been using his position to help people with disabilities.

He said that he would personally supervise the progress of rehabilitation of facilities and reservation for the disabled under the purview of his ministry.

„As an architect, that is my expertise. But as social affairs minister, I deal with many things. So, I have to learn,” Rizmaharini said.

It is important for the Ministry of Social Affairs to expand its horizons to provide better services, he added.

When he was a minister, he met an amputee who had been unable to walk for 39 years. However, with help, the person can walk once again. The minister learned a lot from that experience.

On another occasion, he met a 19-year-old disabled man from East Nusa Tenggara. Based on prior experience, he knew that the beneficiary could be given a specific treatment so that they would not need to depend on help.

She said she thought to herself that the beneficiary had probably never used a wheelchair.

„(I said) that’s right. After they were treated and trained at Solo (Prof. Dr. Soharso Integrated Center Surakarta), they can walk. Now, they can do many things. It means I’m learning too. ,” she said.

Once more he instructed his staff to take advantage of their time while they still had the chance. „A year in which I don’t expand my knowledge is a waste,” he said.

He also urged them to expand their network to improve their performance.

„Don’t just do what’s routine. Every worker only knows what they have to do. (and) they don’t know who’s next to them. We need to build relationships with others so we can. Help each other,” he added.

He reminded all civil servants in the ministry to always learn and improve themselves every day.
