How did Xi Jinping join the CPC?

When the Chinese Communist Party was founded in 1921, it had only 50 members. Over a century, as more and more people joined the cause, its membership exceeded 98 million.

Forty-nine years ago, in a small village called Liangjiahe in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, a 20-year-old young man joined the CBC. It was the first step in Xi Jinping’s professional journey that would see him rise to the highest position in the world’s largest political party.

In 1969, a 15-year-old Xi Jinping arrived in Liangjiahe under a campaign that saw tens of thousands of urban-educated youth enjoy rural life and work.

In Liangjiahe, Xi and other educated youth learned how to do rural work, such as turning the soil, plowing, and herding animals. Within two years, Xi can dig, carry and harvest with farmers.

Although he came from a revolutionary family, Xi’s years in Liangjiahe taught him a people-oriented philosophy and solidified his faith in the Party.

As a young man seeking political advancement, Xi submitted his first application letter to join the party. However, due to the political circumstances at the time, Ji’s application was not immediately approved. Liang Yuming, the then village party chief of Liangjiahe, was convicted for helping Xi submit his application.

Xi was undeterred. He applied again, and again, and again; A total of nine more letters.

Ultimately, the respect he earned from the villagers for his hard work and attitude proved to be important influencing factors. G’s application was finally accepted. He joined the party in 1974 and later became the village party chairman of Liangjiahe.

„As a public servant of the people, my roots are deep in the northern Shaanxi Plateau because it nurtured my unchanging mission: to do practical things for the people,” Shi once wrote while recalling his years in Liangjiahe.

Ever since he joined the party, Ji has always maintained his original ambition of seeking happiness for the people and rejuvenation for the nation.

Since assuming the party’s top post in 2012, Xi has already led historic efforts to realize the first century goal of eradicating absolute poverty and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

These achievements are a testament to Xi’s pledge upon joining the Party: „Be loyal to the Party, work hard, fight for communism all my life, and always be ready to sacrifice my all for the Party and the people.”
