Unlike the US and some other western countries, which have a separate transport code, which also has a component of logistic companies and is very closely monitored, in India we do not have a very popular transport code. The reason traffic index numbers are so important is because there is enough historical evidence to show that auto industry numbers are leading indicators of what is happening in the economy. That’s why, if you look at the history of the stock market, rallies by the transportation and auto sector are the longest-lasting rallies. Especially large commercial vehicles are guided vehicles. As more goods are moved from one place to another when the economy is good, the demand for large commercial vehicles only increases when there is high economic growth. At this stage and in the near future there will be rumblings of political instability, but it is better to ignore them.
