Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Communist Party of China, met with Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, on Monday.
During the meeting, Wang said China-Russia relations have withstood the test of international changes and become more mature, resilient and vigorous.
Wang said China is willing to further strengthen strategic ties with Russia, improve strategic mutual trust, deepen coordination between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, and intensify coordination and cooperation at the bilateral, regional and international levels.
„We must work together to counter hegemonic and high-profile actions, enrich the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of integration for a new era, and inject new impetus into the multipolar world and democratize international relations,” Wang said.
Emphasizing that the BRICS countries are all major emerging markets and developing countries that play an important role in the world, Wang praised BRICS cooperation in recent years for both practical results and institutional progress. BRICS is an acronym for the five emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Wang said China is willing to work closely with Russia and other BRICS countries to further strengthen BRICS cooperation in an effort to protect the common interests of developing countries.
Patrushev said Russia is ready to strengthen strategic ties with China, expand practical cooperation, and deepen integration and cooperation within frameworks including BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
