WWE Royal Rumble 2024: Cody Rhodes’ close friend leaves door open for WWE return as surprise entrant in Royal Rumble match- 'I’m always ready’

Royal Rumble 2024 is just one month away. WWE has already announced Cody Rhodes And CM Bunk for a 30-man Royal Rumble match on the November 17 and December 11 editions of Monday Night Raw, respectively. With 28 spots left, fans are eagerly anticipating who will fill that spot.

Most of them will be filled with superstars who are on the roster, but fans are always more excited for the surprise returns. That being said, a possible return could happen at the event according to a note from a close friend of Cody Rhodes.

Matt Cardona is open to the idea of ​​returning to WWE

Former WWE star Matt Cardona (aka Zack Ryder) recently sat down for an interview Chris VanVliet. During their lengthy conversation, the host of the show asked the guest if fans will see him at the Royal Rumble next month. Cardona replied, „No! Maybe! I don’t know! Who knows?”

He added, „Listen, I’m always ready, aren’t I? And whatever my music is, whether it’s Matt Cardona or Zack Ryder, I’m sure the place is going to rock. I honestly do. So, we’ll see. [I’m] Always ready.”

While Cardona didn’t say yes outright, he didn’t rule out returning to WWE like he did last time. So the question still remains. Will he return to the Stamford-based company or return to his forays into independent wrestling territory?

Where did Cardona go after WWE?

WWE released Cardona in April 2020 as part of Covid-19 budget cuts, ending his 15-year tenure with the company. After being released from the promotion, he joined the rival company AEW, where he played for a short time. He then jumped ship to Impact Wrestling where he offered his services for about two years.

Later he started doing more independent wrestling and joined DDT Pro-Wrestling and Major League Wrestling. Currently, he is wrestling Game Changer Wrestling, National Wrestling Alliance, and Impact Wrestling (Level 2). He is happy with his run in independent wrestling territories.

He admitted that he makes more than he did in WWE. But WWE is still a big name in the wrestling business. So, he might want to make a comeback with his hype increasing 10-fold in the last few years.
