The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought was observed today on June 16 at the Ministry of Agriculture premises.
According to the Public Relations Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, the day focuses on women’s rights in land use.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director General of Agriculture Extension of the Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Semare Amlesom said the purpose of the day was to promote public awareness, promote public participation and promote participation in combating desertification and drought. Women especially in the Sustainable Development Goals and especially in land management and the role of women’s leadership and decision-making.

At the event, a report by the Eritrean Women’s National Union focused on the practical contribution of women in combating desertification and land degradation, as well as the UN’s efforts to curb desertification. Messages were delivered by the Executive Secretary of the Conference. and the objective of the World Convention to Combat Desertification.
The participants held a detailed discussion on the report submitted by their side and adopted various recommendations including strengthening the integrated national strategic plan to combat desertification and drought, strengthening women’s participation and rights in land use.
