Kota Kinabalu: A recent Instagram post has sparked significant online debate after he shared his harrowing experience of being caught in Chinatown and his frustration with the police response. In the post, which has received 1,596 likes, 93 comments and 494 shares, @iqeenqueen described how she was publicly molested while walking alone around 10.30pm.

„I was shocked and scared to react. If she was so brave in front of everyone, who knows what else she is capable of? She highlighted the issue of women feeling unsafe even in crowded areas. Following the incident, @iqeenqueen said she went to the police to report the harassment. However, she got the support she expected. Instead, he said he was met with a barrage of questions and criticism, which escalated when the Instagram user was transferred to another station to meet with a sergeant.

„He was totally focused on why I posted about it, accusing me of trying to get attention on social media,” she said. What made the experience even more painful, he said, was the unprofessional behavior of the sergeant.

„He said he was glad I made the statement so he could meet me,” she added, highlighting the inappropriateness of the meeting. @iqeenqueen clarified that her intention was not to disparage the police, but to raise awareness of the reality many women face. “I know there are good officers there. But unfortunately, I had to deal with the worst,” he said. In her post, she urged other women to be vigilant and take extra precautions for their safety. „Carry pepper spray or something for self-defense, and if you can avoid it, don’t walk alone,” he said. The post sparked a wave of comments from netizens, many of whom expressed outrage and offered advice on how to proceed. “I suggest that you get yourself a lawyer and go to the police station to write another report including your experience. Note the names and IDs of the officers who attended you,” commented one user, Theera Olivia.
