Jurgen Klopp says it will be „super tricky” for Liverpool to win the Premier League title after surrendering top spot to Arsenal this weekend.
Liverpool's 2-2 draw at Manchester United on Sunday moved them behind Arsenal on goal difference and all three title rivals are just one point behind third-placed Manchester City with just seven matches remaining.
However, Klopp says it would be unwise to try to improve Arsenal's goal difference in the remaining matches and that his side are „absolutely fine” with second place at this stage of the season.
„Look, you – the people, our supporters – will tell us [Arsenal] „There is a better goal difference and now we have to go for it,” Klopp said.
„That's the stupidest thing we can do. It doesn't happen on purpose. You have to win a game and score eight goals and it happens.
„Who we are, how we are, that's why we're in the race and I'm absolutely fine with that. I know it's going to be very tricky until the end. That's it. Again, until yesterday, we were top of the table and now it's Arsenal.
“We want to be around after 38 [games], after the last match day. It's always better to be there the whole time and have some distance between you [and the other teams]. We are fine with our situation. I wish we could get more points, but I'm absolutely fine – I'm really over the moon these boys got us to that point. The same guys who missed a few chances today are the ones who got us 71 points, so I'm absolutely fine.”
'Arsenal will beat Man Utd'
Klopp expects more twists and turns in the title race. All three teams are yet to face Tottenham Hotspur, while Arsenal travel to Man Utd in the final week of the season.
However, the Liverpool manager says Arsenal will „100 per cent” beat Man Utd if they play like the Red Devils conceded 28 shots against Liverpool.
„It's more difficult for us than all the other teams. You usually come to United and people worry a little bit more or a little bit less, but when we come it's obviously playing so it's tricky,” he said.
“We handled it well and we've now played two games and come away with a point [of the FA Cup] But at all times since I've been here, I don't think we've always dominated United like we did in these two games. But we didn't get the result, so that's how it is, so obviously there's room for improvement. Anyway, we know we'll go with everything we've got, but now we're playing in the Europa League.
“If we were still around [in the title race in Matchweek 37] That would be great. Arsenal are a good team. If Man Utd play like today, Arsenal will win the game. I am 100 percent sure. I am very sorry to say but it is a fact. We should have won both games [against Man Utd] We didn't. It's our fault,” he said.
