„Our hearts are saddened and pained by what is happening in Gaza,” said Abules, the manager of the Rose City Islamic Center.
“Some people wanted to cancel the salary. They felt that we cannot be here celebrating Eid while our people in Gaza and Palestine are suffering and dying.
Although they decided to go ahead with the celebrations, Abueles said the day provided an opportunity for the community to come together and spread awareness.
„The theme is solidarity with the people of Gaza,” he said.
Individuals from the local Palestinian community were invited to hold a discussion about the ongoing conflict in Gaza and collect donations.
There was still a day to celebrate „mission accomplished” for members who participated in the month of sacrifice, Abueles said.
„It's not easy to go against your own desires,” he said.
“If people can do this religious work, it is a meaningful thing. As a society, we socialize and we stay together.
Members of the local Muslim community held Eid Al-Fitr prayers on April 10 at the Saint Denis Center, Al Hijirah Mosque and Rose City Islamic Center.
