Ambassadors from more than 30 countries visited the under-construction BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi earlier this week and were in awe of the hand-carved temple’s mesmerizing design and exquisite craftsmanship.

After an opening presentation by BAPS Hindu Mandir President Swami Brahmaviharidas, all 85 guests, ambassadors, representatives of delegations and their families were given a guided tour. They marveled at the intricate carvings and intricate designs of the temple.

„This temple, which is a cultural asset, will be a wonderful addition to the skyline of the UAE,” said Dr Richard Kay, New Zealand’s ambassador to the UAE.

The region’s first traditional sandstone Hindu temple stands on 27 acres of land. The exterior facade is pink sandstone from the Indian state of Rajasthan, while the interior is made of Italian marble.

“I am in awe of Indian craftsmanship. I see the philosophy of tolerance in the sculptures,” said Akio Izomata, Ambassador of Japan to the UAE.

With more than 25,000 stones, the temple was built according to the Hindu 'Shilpa Shastras’ – ancient Indian architecture. Arabic, Mayan, Greek and other cultural stories promoting peace, tolerance and harmony are immortalized in the facade stone.

„One really has to go and see the elaborate carvings and the heartfelt emotions of the volunteers,” said Aminat Shabeena, Ambassador of the Maldives to the UAE.

„[These are] The most remarkable carvings represent the flora and fauna of India and the United Arab Emirates. It is amazing to see the tolerance of the UAE leadership,” he underlined.

Swami Brahmaviharidas noted that the existence of the diplomatic fraternity and their families is a testament to the unifying power of faith and culture.

“Celebrating the past, reminiscing the present and reimagining the future, BAPS Hindu Mandir combines ancient art and architecture, modern science and technology, universal values and spirituality. Your presence here sends a hopeful message of reconciliation and is a testament to the hope that dialogue, exchange and engagement can bring us all closer together and make this world a happier place.
