Hosts and two-time defending champions Poland have announced a full-strength squad for the European Athletics Team Championships Division 1 in Silesia.
All three divisions of the European Athletics Team Championships are part of the Third European Games in Krakow-Małopolska, with Division 1 taking place from 23-25 June at the Sławski Stadium in Silesia.
The Poles won their second consecutive team trophy at the same venue two years ago and their squad includes several individual winners, including Pia Skrzyszowska in the 100m hurdles and Natalia Kazmarek in the 400m.
“Athletics is an individual sport, but sometimes we have to compete as a team and a start like that is always special. For me it was like running a relay race. Then you are only responsible for your startup. , but also to other team members. We are a team and we have a common goal, which is to win,” Kasmarek said.
Skrzyszowska won the 100/100m hurdles double two years ago, but she will focus solely on the 100m hurdles next week. This saw European indoor silver medalist Eva Svoboda return to the team in the 100m.
Other star names in the squad – Anna Kielbasinska (200m), Piotr Liszek (pole vault), Michal Hradic (shot put) and Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki (hammer) are capable of challenging for wins in their respective events.
Adriana Sulek, a multiple major medalist in combined events, has also been invited to compete in the high jump.
