The Speaker of Parliament met with President Macron in Paris

JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani met with French President Emmanuel Macron during the 2024 Women Speakers Summit held at the Elysee Palace in the French capital Paris on Thursday (March 7).

Based on a press release received here on Friday, the Queen said during her conversation with President Macron that the relations between Indonesia and France have grown positively for more than 73 years.

„This is a proud achievement that will always be our concern in Indonesia,” he noted.

The Queen affirmed that France is one of Indonesia's most important partners in Europe. Therefore, he sought to intensify bilateral relations between Indonesia and France, especially strategically, in political, security and economic fields.

He encouraged cooperation in the fields of economy and investment between the two countries.

„As the Speaker of Parliament, I fully support that initiative,” he noted.

President Macron agreed to improve bilateral relations between Indonesia and France. Through the Queen, she congratulated Indonesians on the recent elections.

„Bilateral relations between Indonesia and France are expected to improve in the future,” he said.

Macron was accompanied by French National Assembly Speaker Yael Braun-Pivet.

„Indonesia is a friend of France,” the French president added.

After meeting President Macron, the Queen and other participants returned to the venue of the 2024 Women Speakers Summit. Macron held the meeting to welcome the 24 female parliamentarians participating in the summit.

Meanwhile, the summit held on March 6-7 discussed various issues related to women's empowerment and gender equality.

In Paris, the Queen was accompanied by other House members Charles Honorés and Irene Eusiana Roba Putri, and Indonesian Ambassador to France Mohamed Omar.
