The Russian Ambassador released the EAEU-Indonesia Free Trade Agreement

Jakarta (Antara) – Many experts in Russia are very optimistic that the negotiation process for free trade between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will be completed within two years, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobeeva said.

After that, a free trade agreement will also be signed, he said in a press conference held on Wednesday.

He believes that the agreement will not only increase bilateral trade between Indonesia and Russia, but also intensify trade between Indonesia and EAEU member states in general.

He said Indonesia has started official negotiations for a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), a process that began last year.

„We have already held the first round of talks in Jakarta,” Ambassador Lyudmila Vorobeeva said.

At the press conference, he also informed that Russia, along with other member states, will celebrate the EAEU Day for the first time on May 29, 2023.

„For the first time, not only the government of our country, but all members of the Eurasian Economic Commission decided to celebrate this as the Eurasian Union Day,” Ambassador Lyudmila Vorobeeva said.

The Economic Cooperation Association was established in 2015, Lyudmila said. This union includes member states like Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Meanwhile, on the occasion, Ambassador Lyudmila also spoke about several upcoming international forums, including the Eurasian Economic Forum in Moscow at the end of May.

A large number of delegates from various parts of Indonesia are expected to participate in the forum.

In June, Russia will also host the 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum under the chairmanship of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The ambassador noted that we look forward to the Indonesian delegation attending the event.

Meanwhile, Russia recently celebrated the 78th anniversary of its victory in World War II (WWII), or the Great Patriotic War.

„Every year, we hold a military parade in Moscow to celebrate victory and honor our ancestors,” the ambassador noted.

During that commemoration, they have an initiative called „Immortal Regiment” under which people walk the streets of different cities and display photographs of their parents and grandparents who fought in World War II.

Such activities are held to show respect and solidarity for the people who have died in war.
