The economy has not been kind to Nigerians

A lawmaker representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Ede Dafinone, said “the economy has not been kind to Nigerians, especially those at the bottom of the ladder”.

Senator Dafinone said this on Friday when he distributed to his constituents the preventive supplies including milling machines, generators, sewing machines, cosmetic kits, food items and other empowerment tools.

„We are aware of the hunger in the country and feel the need to support the less privileged,” he said.

No fewer than 2,500 members benefited from the gesture which took place at Dafinone’s corporate premises in Amukpe, Delta State.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Dafinine assured Nigerians that the government is aware of the prevailing economic challenges and urged Nigerians to exercise patience.

However, acknowledging the biting economic conditions, Dafinone justified the government’s policies amid criticism that „rising fuel prices, dollar exchange rates and food costs are the consequences of policies designed to strengthen the economy.”

“It’s like taking a bitter pill; It is unpleasant now, but it is for the long-term benefit,” he said.

According to the lawmakers, „the government is committed to reducing the pain associated with these measures.”

He further said, “We are taking steps to mitigate these challenges. This empowerment program is a testament to our commitment.

“The APC government is responsive to the people. This increase is designed to strengthen the economy and make things better. The President’s conclusion is that we need to adjust to improve the economy.

“This is the first phase of our own empowerment initiative. We plan to reach out to more people in subsequent projects. We understand that there may be some variation in the delivery process, but we assure you that we are working to ensure the most worthy result.

He described President Tinubu’s „bold decisions”, especially the removal of fuel subsidy, as long overdue action.

„The President is aware of the sufferings of the people and is taking preventive measures to mitigate its effects,” he said.

Dafinone Foundation and Dafinone Cooperative Women President Mrs. Obakpolor Vic expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the empowerment programme.

A beneficiary from Ughelli South, Innocent Ededegba, commended Dafinone for the initiative, noting that “this gesture is a big relief to our people, especially in these challenging times”.

Senator Dafinone’s Chief of Staff, Olorogun Adelabu, urged beneficiaries to make optimal use of items that „will empower you financially”.

„We expect you to use them wisely,” he said.
