Speaker, MIKTA meets Jokowi to discuss peace efforts in Gaza

Jakarta (Antara) – Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Buan Maharani and four MIKTA parliamentary speakers met with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Monday to discuss various international issues, especially the struggle for peace in Gaza.

„At the MIKTA session we will discuss how we can promote the opening of humanitarian corridors and continue to fight for freedom in Palestine,” the Queen noted at a press conference in Jakarta.

In addition, he and MIKTA parliamentary speakers discussed climate change and the global economy with President Jokowi.

„We talked about climate change and the economy, the situation for which is not good enough globally or in other countries,” he added.

Therefore, the 9th MIKTA Speakers’ Consultative Meeting will produce a joint statement to support peace in Palestine and strengthen global economic cooperation.

„Whatever happens, MIKTA, as a (multilateral) forum, can support what is being done in MIKTA countries, in conjunction with what is being done by governments,” he explained.

The 9th MIKTA Speaker’s Conference was held in Jakarta as a forum for consultation between the parliamentary speakers of MIKTA countries, which include Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia.

Before opening the forum, Her Majesty held a bilateral meeting with each MIKTA parliamentary speaker, calling on MIKTA as part of the Middle Powers to support efforts to achieve peace in Palestine.

„In particular, I call for an immediate cessation of Israeli attacks in Gaza and an early ceasefire. The root cause of the Israeli occupation of Palestine must be resolved as soon as possible,” he said. Said.

During bilateral meetings, MIKTA encouraged countries to participate in an agreement on a two-state solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine and to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims of the war.
