Singer Coco Lee has died at the age of 48

Taipei, July 5 (CNA) Hong Kong-American singer Coco Lee (李玟) has died at the age of 48, the singer’s sister and record label confirmed in separate statements on Wednesday.

In a social media post, the singer’s sister, Nancy Lee (李思林), said that Koko died in hospital on Sunday after several days of trying to take her own life and falling into a coma.

Nancy Lee said her sister was diagnosed with depression several years ago, and her condition had recently taken a turn for the worse.

He said his sister had brought endless joy and surprise to audiences in her nearly 30 years as an artist and worked hard to break new ground in the international music industry as a Chinese-American pop star.

„The family is so proud of her,” Nancy Lee said.

Coco Lee’s label Beijing Warner Music confirmed the news of her death in a statement.

„Coco Lee has enjoyed an amazing musical career since her debut in 1994,” the company said, adding that she used singing, dancing and positive energy to let everyone feel the power she wanted to bring.

Coco Lee was born in Hong Kong in 1975 to a Chinese Indonesian father and a Hong Kong mother.

A singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer and actress, Lee’s career began in Hong Kong, then expanded to Taiwan and her single „Do You Want My Love” entered the US music charts.

He studied biochemistry at the University of California, Irvine after his family moved to San Francisco when he was 10.
