Washington: NASA has shared stunning footage of two powerful solar flares that barely made it through Earth’s atmosphere.
NASA shared these images on social media X and also shared some valuable information that every science enthusiast should know.
According to @NASASun, “The Sun released two strong solar flares, the first peak on May 13, 2024 at 10:09 PM ET, and the second peak on May 14, 2024 at 8:55 AM ET, as captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. Event classified as X1.7 and X1.2.”
What are sunburns?
Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation. Harmful radiation from a spark cannot physically affect humans on the ground by passing through Earth’s atmosphere. However, when sufficiently intense they can disturb the atmosphere at the layer where GPS and communications signals travel.

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured these images of the solar flare — the bright flash on the right sides of the images — on May 13 and May 14, 2024. These images show a subset of extreme UV light. Combustible and it is purple, pink and gold in color.
