CENTER VALLEY, PA (April 21, 2024) – Jr Rachel Lowry A three-hit shutout and eliminated the senior Victoria Agnoli DeSales broke the all-time record for stolen bases to lead the varsity softball team to a DH division with Wilkes University in conference action Sunday afternoon.
Game One (W/7-0)
DSU took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI double from the senior Alexis Vernier And RBI from senior Kaylee Ferraro.
The lead was two in the fifth inning when the Bulldogs exploded for five runs thanks to a three-run home run by the junior. Tori Kenney.
Lowry limited the Colonels to three hits, striking out four, earning his 13th win of the season.
Second year Morgan Benner Two hits and two runs scored. Agnoli had two hits and stole two bases, and Vernier finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Game Two (L/3-5)
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the first when Agnoli tied the all-time record with his 48th career stolen base and scored on a sacrifice fly from Vernier. He scored again in the third after another single by Vernier followed by a single and an error by the left fielder.
Wilkes led 4-2 with four runs in the fourth and led 5-2 after five innings.
Agnoli finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and tied the all-time record for stolen bases with his 49th swipe in the fifth inning. He broke a record that had stood since 1995. Vernier had two more hits in two games.
The Bulldogs host Eastern University in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m.
