Liverpool may or may not sign in the winter transfer window. If recent history is anything to go by, the Reds are open to a transfer if the right opportunity presents itself.
We saw this in the last two windows when the club signed Luis Diaz in the winter of 2022 and Cody Kakpo a year later. For Díaz, Liverpool had to steal a march on Tottenham, who also agreed a fee with Porto for the Colombian.
With Gakpo, Jürgen Klopp needed cover last season with many of his predecessors injured or struggling for form and got him six months before Roberto Firmino left. Liverpool haven't had any such problems this season, but that doesn't mean the club won't strike when given the chance.

The full extent of several injuries is unclear at this stage and fans will have to wait and see if Liverpool decide to enter the market. However, despite the Egyptian's six-week absence from Anfield for the AFCON, Liverpool are unlikely to replace Mohamed Salah. Here it is Liverpool.com Verdict on the transfer rumors swirling around the red carpet today.
Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)
The Reds have recently been linked with a move for versatile Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, according to a Spanish source. AS, Liverpool could be joined in the race to sign the 28-year-old by Manchester United. Erik ten Hoag's side are having a torrid season and need some world-class talent in their squad. about this, Estimated $65m (£52m/€60m). Kimmich fits the bill.
Liverpool could target Kimmich with Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo Despite being away from international duty at the Asian Cup, a move for the Bayern legend will most likely be a summer move, not a winter one. Kimmich's contract expires in the summer of 2025 and Bayern will need to sell him next summer if they want to cash in on his departure.
Liverpool.com says: Kimmich could be a huge signing by Liverpool this winter or next summer. His versatility will be a huge boost for Klopp and his experience at the highest level is second to none. Given United's status at the moment and Liverpool's advantage of having Klopp as boss, it's unlikely the Bayern star would choose Old Trafford over Anfield. But he may be on the old side compared to most of the players Liverpool are targeting.
Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain)
Here we go again. Spanish source Mundo Deportivo (print edition, via Paisley Gates), Liverpool are keen to sign the French superstar Kylian Mbappe ahead of next season. His current contract with PSG expires in the summer. At this stage, most expect Mbappe to sign for Real Madrid, who have known the player for many years.
Yet the Spanish newspaper claims Liverpool are ready to 'step up and overtake' Florentino Perez's side in the race to sign the French forward. As always, Mbappé's wages remain a sticking point in any negotiations, considering he earns around $41m (£33m/€38m) a season with PSG. Liverpool can't match the same terms.
Liverpool.com says: Mbappé to Liverpool links are never-ending, somewhat admirably, even though almost everyone knows the club can't afford him. Even with Mohamed Salah leaving this summer and his wages freeing up a large part of the wage bill, Liverpool still may not be able to afford Mbappé, his wages, never mind a signing fee. Even though his contract has expired, it is nothing more than a free transfer.
