Lewis Hamilton admitted to struggling with the likes of Ferrari from 13th to finish sixth at the Miami Grand Prix.

After struggling on hard tires early on, Hamilton pitted on lap 38 and found extra speed in the media to work his way through the field.

It was a positive day for Mercedes as George Russell finished fourth, overtaking Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for sixth with two laps remaining.

For Hamilton, being able to deliver in such a „dangerous position” is what motivates him, as Mercedes continue to look for the consistency they need to hold on to the front of the pack.

„I’m really happy to be fighting with all the different cars and it was great to finally catch the Alpine and overtake the Ferrari,” said Hamilton.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says he enjoyed racing at the Miami Grand Prix.

„It’s mega. I was going backwards in the sprint race in the last race, it’s depressing when you’re going backwards, it’s really tough.

„It was great to be fast and see the cars in front and see the progress. I had a couple of big overtakes and that’s what I live for.

„It was great to see Ferrari get in front and catch up a little bit.

„If we had qualified where I should have qualified, I would have had a much easier, smoother day, but I like days like this, where there’s a little bit of adversity, you just have to deliver.”

Russell: It was a satisfying match

Mercedes driver George Russell reflects on a successful Miami Grand Prix.

It was a day to remember for Russell, who overtook the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz on lap 38 to take fourth.

With the Mercedes showing more pace than its rivals, Russell was satisfied with his race as he felt he got the most out of the unpredictable car.

„Honestly, I feel pumped because it’s been a while since we’ve had a good race like the one we overtook,” Russell said.

„Relatively speaking, the pace was strong and I felt good in the car, so of course it was a satisfying one.

Anthony Davidson was on Skypad to see how George Russell, who started the race in sixth place, finished fourth in Miami.

„I would have liked to have been three positions higher, but we are a team now and we know the maximum position is P4.

„It’s been a good day at the office and we’ll sit down with everyone tomorrow to see how we can move from here.”
