Latest Match Report – Heat vs Renegades 43rd Match 2023/24

Melbourne Renegades Defeat 169 for 7 (Matthews 46, Hancock 4-20) Brisbane heat 167 for 9 (Harris 65, Goyd 3-26) by two runs

Skipper Hayley Matthews proved the hero in the last over as Melbourne Renegades cruised to a thrilling two-run win over Brisbane Heat.

The Heat needed six runs to win at the start of Mathews’ 20th over, but the West Indies star conceded just three runs to keep Nicola Hancock and Courtney Sippel quiet at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field.

Earlier, Mathews was a match-winning scorer and he delivered his best and most influential innings of the WBBL season, scoring 46 off 28 balls to help the Renegades to 169 for 7.

Heat opener Grace Harris kept her side in the chase with a 36-ball 65 before Jess Jonassen and Hancock put them on the brink of victory at the end of the 19th over.

Mathews took the early wicket of Georgia Redmayne and two slick catches in the final over as he restricted the Heat to 167 for 9.

With the bat, Mathews played strokes all over the field. He looked a threat until he was bowled by seamer Hancock in the final overs, who finished with career-best figures of 4 for 20.

Opener Emma de Bruck scored 42 at the top of the order and supported Mathews well.

The Renegades were 134 for 2 in the 16th over before Hancock and part-timer Harris pulled them back. Harris took 2 wickets for 16 runs.
