Latest Match Report – Australia vs West Indies 2nd Test 2023-2025

West Indies Won the toss and decided to bat first Australia

West Indies have opted to bat first in the second Test against Australia, with Guyana's spinning all-rounder Kevin Sinclair making his Test debut in place of Gudkesh Moti.

Australian captain Pat Cummins confirmed that he would have batted first had Australia won the toss.

Sinclair received his first Test cap from former West Indies and Guyana all-rounder Carl Hooper. Sinclair has played seven ODIs and six T20Is. He was the fourth debutant for the West Indies in the two-Test series but was the only change from the losing XI in Adelaide.

Australia stuck to their winning formula despite some covid infections running through the camp. All-rounder Cameron Green and coach Andrew Macdonald both tested positive for Covid yesterday, after Travis Head tested positive earlier in the week. The head later tested negative. Green is set to play and MacDonald will still coach the team, but both will remain out of the squad until negative throughout the early part of the Test.

Opener Usman Khawaja is also fit to play after recovering from a head injury suffered in the Adelaide Test.

The Kappa pitch has less grass than last year when Australia and South Africa played on a much livelier surface in the two-day Test. This will be the first time since 2019 that a day-night Test match will be played at the Gabba. There have been two pink-ball Test matches in Brisbane, both of which Australia have won. Australia won it all 11 Day-Night Tests They have been playing since 2015.
