Horse racing in New York brings $3 billion to the NYS economy

Horse racing in New York generated $3-billion in the Empire State economy and 19,785 jobs by 2023, according to the results of the American Horse Council's 2023 Economic Impact Study.

„It's interesting to see how much of an economic engine horse racing is in New York State,” said NYTHA President Tina Marie Bond. „With a total economic impact of $3 billion statewide, racing has added 2,000 direct jobs over the past five years. Racing supports land conservation and green space throughout the state, and is a significant driver of tourism in the Capital Region and Long Island. The 2024 and 2025 Belmont Stakes Festival in Saratoga and With a redeveloped Belmont Park on the horizon, the race will continue to boost local economies and provide jobs for years to come.

„Findings from the American Horse Council's Economic Impact Study for New York indicate that the breeding and racing industry is an invaluable asset to our state,” said NYTB President Dr. Scott Ahlschwede, DVM. The leading regional program in the nation, and we look forward to continuing to work with our fellow partners to ensure that additional investment in breeding and racing in New York results in additional revenue for all regions across the state.
