Hacking for Humanity 2023 calls for contributions from women in technology

The competition is sponsored by Altice Dominicana and targets teams led by a woman with participants between the ages of 19 and 35 who are interested in technology; Registration is open till October 31, 2023.

Winning teams can receive up to RD$100,000.00.

Closing the Gender Gap in Tech Continues Girls in Tech, Dominican Republic Chapter; Every year its Hacking for Humanity conducts a competition or hackathon to develop technologies that provide solutions to different societal problems.

The theme of this edition is „Financial Inclusion in the Dominican Republic” and presents the challenge of designing innovative and technical solutions with the aim of promoting access to credit and/or financial and investment instruments for the most needy communities in our country.

A challenge that represents a unique opportunity for developers, designers, data scientists, students, businessmen, entrepreneurs, educators, mentors and anyone interested in technology and innovation.

Starting October 31, Friday 10th, Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, the competition process includes the support of mentors to help participants unleash their creativity and implement technical and soft skills through training on various topics related to their creations. November 12, demonstrate acquired skills and present their proposals to the jury.

Experience that adds value to participants’ resumes. In addition, the winning teams will enjoy the following prizes:

First place will receive a prize of RD$100,000.00; Second place will receive RD$70,000.00; and third place will win RD$42,000.00.

Hacking for Humanity 2023 will take place at the INDOTEL Center, located in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo, thanks to the funding of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), Visa and United Capital, with the patronage of Altice Dominicana. Supporting these types of initiatives reinforces its commitment to closing the gender gap in technology.

Girls in Tech TR, Dominican Republic Chapter, was founded in 2020 and is a global non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology. Founded by Adriana Gascoigne in 2007, the company has more than 50 chapters on six continents and around the world.

The organization provides experiences and educational opportunities to help women discover and exploit their unique talents in the technology industry.
