„Futurama” Renewed for Two New Seasons on Hulu Variety has learned
The revival of the beloved adult animated series has picked up an additional 20 episodes on the streaming service. Hulu picked up the show for 20 episodes in February 2022, with the first 10 airing since July. A premiere date for the second batch of 10 from that order has yet to be announced, though it is expected to debut in 2024. (under New Order bringing the show back for seasons 13 and 14).
Hulu’s revival of the series marks the second time the show has been brought back since it debuted in 1999. After its initial four-season run on Fox, reruns of the show found new life on Cartoon Network and as part of the Adult Swim lineup. on DVD. Four direct-to-video films were subsequently produced, which were then re-edited for a fifth season, which began airing on Comedy Central in 2008. Comedy Central would air two more seasons of 26 episodes each between 2010 and 2013.
The official description of the new season reads, „After a short ten-year hiatus, 'Futurama’ has successfully crawled out of the cryogenic tube, with its entire original cast and sense of satire intact. The ten new episodes of season eleven have something for everyone. New viewers can pick up the series from here, as well. Longtime fans will recognize the payoff for decades of mysteries — including developments in Fry and Leela’s epic love story, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s trash can, a secret history, the whereabouts of evil robot Santa and Kiff and Amy’s tadpoles. Meanwhile, vaccines, bitcoin, cancellation culture and As the crew explores the future of streaming TV, there’s a new epidemic in town.
The entire core cast of the original series — John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Dres MacNeil, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tam, Bill Lamar and David Herman — returns for the new Hulu episodes. „Futurama” was created by Matt Groening and produced by Groening and David X. Developed by Cohen. Executive producers include Groening, Cohen, Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz. 20th is a television animation studio.
