The two original „Friends” scripts, parts one and two of „The One With Ross's Wedding,” have their own storyline.
After being dumped in a London rubbish bin 25 years ago, the scripts are up for auction, with Hansons Auctioneers. declared This week. The 1998 episodes formed the season four finale, and followed the quirky quintet as Ross, Monica, Joey, Chandler and Rachel travel to England to attend Ross' wedding.
After they finished filming, the cast and crew were ordered to destroy copies of the scripts so that the plot would not be leaked before the episodes aired, the auction house said. But a pair of scripts appear to have been discovered by a now-retired employee at the TV studio where the shows were filmed, the Hansons explained.
„I found them in a tub two weeks after filming,” an unnamed former employee told the Hansons. „It was part of my job to make sure everything was tidy and there was no rubbish left. I didn't know what to do with them, so I put them in my office drawer.”
Fortunately for the „Friends” cast and crew, the studio staff didn't leak any plot details. They quit the job the very next year and completely forgot about the scripts. After rediscovering them years later on their bedside tables, the Hansons decided to evaluate the scripts.
„Funnily enough, I'm not a big fan of friends,” the former employee told the auction house. „I don't like the show, but I've only recently seen the episodes that I have the scripts for. American comedy is different for us. These scripts deserve to be owned by a big 'Friends' fan.”
Amanda Butler, the auction house's head of operations, said she didn't know how much the scripts would go for.
“We guide them at £600-£800 [roughly $765-$1,022]But thanks to the show's huge global appeal, who knows where the hammer will fall,” Butler said. „The 'Friends' finale aired 20 years ago in 2004, but it's still watched and enjoyed by millions.”
Scripts will be available for auction on Friday.
Fans of the beloved show are still mourning Death of Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the show. Perry died suddenly last fall from „acute effects of ketamine.”
