Russia has no place as a country at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the Russian flag should not be used at next year’s Games. French President Emmanuel Macron said.
Speaking to French sports newspaper l’Equipe, Macron said discussions should be held about the participation of some Russian athletes who „may become victims of this regime”.
„Obviously, there can’t be a Russian flag at the Paris Olympics because Russia as a country has no place [at the Games] While it is Children deported for war crimes,” Macron said Wednesday.
„The real question for the Olympic world to decide is what to do with these Russian athletes who have sometimes been preparing for a lifetime. [for the Games]And maybe a victim of this regime,” Macron added, acknowledging that Russian athletes may have different views on the war.
Macron said the „Olympic world” should hold discussions and Ukraine should be part of that dialogue. Ultimately, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will take the decision, he said.

No decision has yet been made on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2024 Olympics.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal tweeted in August that the country would be ready to boycott the Games if Russia and Belarus were allowed to complete the competition.
„We are ready to boycott the Olympic Games in Paris if the Russian Federation and Belarus are allowed to compete,” Schmihal said.
„We expect the IOC to take the right decision and firmly remove squatters from the Olympics,” Schmihal added.
