Tell us about the award:
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with academic partners, is launching Research Challenge: Climate Change XX: Focus on Women’s Health. The challenge will support young and female researchers addressing the impact of climate change on women and girls’ health – with a special focus on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender equality and inclusion in the design of climate solutions.

Who can apply for the UNPFA Research Climate Change XX Challenge?
Interested candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria before applying:
- We invite submissions from research groups and institutions led by young researchers under the age of 35 or a female researcher.
- Applicants must commit to a two-week fellowship program from August to November and be prepared to present the results of a research study or share new findings within four months.
- Applicants should be prepared to submit evidence of how grants received have advanced research by November 2024, even if research results are not expected to be delivered within the timeframe and scope of this initiative.
- Individuals and groups must live and work in UNFPA program countries and be of origin and demonstrate proximity to the community through their settlement.
- At a minimum, applicants should have already established research and core research questions.
- Organizations can be for-profit, not-for-profit or hybrid models.
- Team members must have a working knowledge of English to participate in the support program.
- Only one submission is allowed per applying group. All submissions must be made in English only.

What is the benefit of the UNPFA Research Climate Change XX Challenge?
Each successful project will receive a grant to support a researcher or research team with seed funding of up to $15,000. The winning teams will sign a 4-month contract.
- Advance their research in identifying and understanding the impact of climate change on the health of women and girls.
- Focus on the equal inclusion of women in the dataset at all stages of the study and promote the integration of gender change approaches in their study design.
- Strengthening inclusiveness and responsiveness to the unique needs of women and girls.
