EuroHockey5s Championship 2023 Women: Preview

From June 28 to July 1, Europe’s best women’s hockey5s teams will gather in Włosz, Poland for the EuroHockey5s Championship 2023, with three spots up for grabs at the inaugural FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup Oman 2024.

A total of 10 teams will compete in the championship, divided into two pools of 5 each in the preliminary round. Georgia, Poland, Switzerland, Turkey and Wales are in Pool A, while Austria, Netherlands, Slovakia, Sweden and Ukraine compete in Pool B. The tournament kicks off at 10am local time (CEST) on June 28, with Ukraine facing Sweden. Pool A meets.

Each team in the pool stage plays the other teams once. The top two teams in both divisions will qualify for the semi-finals. The teams finishing third and fourth in the pool stage will compete for the 5th-8th place classification and the bottom teams in both pools will compete for the 9th place. After the semifinals, the losing teams will play in the bronze medal match. The two finalists and the bronze medalist will qualify for the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024.

The inaugural edition of the FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024 will be played from 24-31 January 2024 in Muscat, Oman, with 16 teams competing in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

In the men’s category, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland teams from Europe and Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria from Africa have qualified for the World Cup. The United States, Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica have qualified along with Oman, who hosts the tournament from the United States.

In the women’s competition, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Africa and USA, Uruguay and Paraguay have qualified for the World Cup. Apart from the three qualifiers from Europe, three more teams from Oceania and Asia will also qualify for the World Cup.
