JAKARTA (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced that the first day of Shawwal 1445 Hijri or Eid al-Fitr will fall on Wednesday (April 10, 2024).
The date was decided by an Isbad (Confirmation) meeting held at the ministry office in Jakarta on Tuesday evening.
„Based on the calculation of the hilal position in Indonesian territory that met the MABIMS criteria and reports of hilal sightings, it was agreed that 1st Shawwal Hijri 1445 falls on Wednesday, April 10, 2024,” Religious Affairs Minister Yakut Solil Kumas said. declared.
He said this in a press conference regarding the determination of the first day of Shawwal 1445 Hijri.
Hilal is the new crescent that marks the beginning of the month in the Islamic calendar. The requirements for determining the beginning of the month are set by the Ministers of Religion of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS).
The Isbad meeting started at 5:00 PM and ended at 7:00 PM with the announcement of the first day of Shawwal or the day of Eidul Fitr.
The meeting began with an explanation of the position of the new crescent moon based on astronomical data.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs conducted observations or Rukyatul Hilal at 127 points in Indonesia. The ministry also received reports from a number of Hilal observers working under the pledge, which spread from Aceh provinces to Papua.
The government's determination of the first day of Shawwal coincides with the decision of Indonesia's main Muslim organization, Muhammadiyah, although Muhammadiyah announced that the month of Ramadan would begin on March 11 this year.
Meanwhile, the government decided March 12 as the start of Ramadan 2024 in Indonesia through an Isbad meeting held in Jakarta on March 10.
