Dhaka Aquaculture Seeks Aquaculture Cooperation with ASEAN

Dhaka, March 3, 2024 (BSS) – Sharing best practices is key for Bangladesh and ASEAN countries to strengthen cooperation in sustainable aquaculture and fisheries sector, Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Moman said today.


He said this while inaugurating the ASEAN-Bangladesh International Workshop on Aquaculture and Fisheries in Mymensingh.


The inaugural session was attended by heads of ASEAN embassies in Dhaka, representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization, high-level officials, policy makers, researchers and participants from ten ASEAN countries and Bangladesh.


Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in collaboration with Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Fisheries and ASEAN Secretariat organized a three-day seminar titled 'Towards Sustainable Aquaculture: ASEAN Bangladesh Initiative on Antibiotic Stewardship, Good Practice and Cluster Farming'.


Experts from ASEAN and Bangladesh are expected to share their experiences and best practices.


The Ministry of External Affairs also made arrangements for visiting ASEAN heads of missions and diplomats at historical sites, Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) and fisheries projects in Mymensingh.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Government of Bangladesh has recently taken several initiatives to expand its engagement with ASEAN in its efforts to become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner.


The workshop will be held on March 5 at Cox's Bazar as part of the ASEAN-Bangladesh Cooperation Program on Fisheries sponsored by the Government of Bangladesh.


As part of the rest of the project, a training program and seminar will be organized in Jakarta this year.
