Chinese Ambassador to the US Xie Feng urged the US to raise its concerns on economic and trade issues during a meeting with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Monday, days ahead of her scheduled trip to China this week.
The Chinese Embassy in the United States said in a statement that the two sides exchanged views on China-US relations and economic and financial issues at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
Both sides said the meeting was „transparent and constructive” and agreed to maintain contact.
During the meeting, Xie also noted that a healthy and stable China-US relationship is in the interest of both countries and the common expectation of the international community.
President Xi Jinping has always proposed the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation in viewing and dealing with its relations with the United States, he said.
„We hope that the US side will meet the Chinese side halfway, implement the important common understandings between the two leaders in letter and spirit, remove obstacles, manage differences in actions, and strengthen dialogue and cooperation with sincerity. We will promote the stability of China-US relations and put them back on the right track. ,” Xie said.
China’s Ministry of Finance announced on Monday that Yellen will visit China from July 6 to 9, as agreed between China and the United States.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit comes more than two weeks after a two-day visit to Beijing.
