Baseball swept the doubleheader over Wingate to win the series

Wingate, NC – The Lenoir-Rhyne baseball team took both games over the Wingate Bulldogs in Saturday's doubleheader to win its first road conference series of the season.

In the first game of the day, the two teams combined for 26 total runs and 39 total hits. Additionally, the Bears had a season-best homerun hitting day with six long shots.

After the Bulldogs tied it in the bottom of the ninth, the game extended into the 11th inning, where the Bears produced two RBI hits to win their first extra-inning game of the year, 14-12.

In the second game, defense grabbed the headlines as both teams went scoreless through three innings of the seven-inning contest.

However, the Bears put together big frames with a three-run fourth and a four-run seventh to close out the road series with a 7-1 decision.

Game One Stats:

  • While on vacation It was an incredible performance at the plate as he led the team with three RBIs and accounted for a team-high four hits.
  • In addition to Holiday's four-hit game, Tyler McPeek All four wins for the Bears. It was his second four-hit game of the season.
  • Plague Bean Pierce had his first 2-HR game of the season. The graduate student hit a solo home run in the fifth and eighth innings.
  • Of the 20 hits Pierce collected, 11 were extra-base hits. Had four doubles, one triple and six home runs.
  • Tyler Parks Got the win on the mound. The junior struck out five batters in his two innings of work.
  • Joshua Lanham It was his first start since March 8. The redshirt senior allowed eight hits and five runs in 4.1 innings.
  • Wingate's Isaiah Williams-Rem went 6-for-7. The Bulldogs' lead-off batter had five singles and one double.

Game Two Stats:

  • Kellan Gratisar Pitched his first career complete game for the Bears. The freshman gave up six hits and just one run in seven innings pitched.
  • Cole Stanford Led the Bears with three RBIs. The redshirt junior had a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
  • As in the first game, Holiday led the team with a two-hit performance.
  • There were only two walks per side in this match, so few free passes were given.
  • McPeak had a solo home run in the seventh inning. It was the graduate student's first home run since March 14 against St. Michael's.
  • Beane snapped his hitting streak at 13 games. That matched the graduate student's preseason high.
  • Holiday was caught stealing for the first time this season. The junior still leads the team with 12 stolen bases.

Beyond the box score

  • Wingate leads the all-time series 90-52.
  • This is LR's first win over Wingate since May 2, 2022. That's how LR won the SAC Tournament Championship.
  • With the series win, it was the first time the Bears had won a weekend away from Durham Field since the season-opening series.
  • Thanks to two wins and two chalk losses, the Bears are ranked No. They have a two-game cushion in 8th place.
  • It was the Bears' first regular season series win over the Bulldogs since 2008. LR beat Wingate in that three-game set in Hickory, NC.
